Biographical Information

Ed Albosta was signed by Detroit Tigers scout Wish Egan while still at Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Michigan. He pitched semipro ball in Saginaw, was with the Beckley Bengals in the Class D Mountain States League in 1938, and played for the Hot Springs Bathers in the Class C Cotton States League in 1939. In January 1940, he was declared a minor league free agent and signed with the Montreal Royals; assigned to the Dayton Wings in the Class C Middle Atlantic League for the season, he finished 9-11. In 1941, he was with the Durham Bulls in the Class B Piedmont League, where he was 15-4 with a 1.73 ERA, earning a call up with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He made his major league debut on September 9, 1941 and appeared in 2 games.

In 1942, Albosta was with the Montreal Royals in the Class AA International League. At the end of the season, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was married before the 1942 season and was classified 3A in the draft, as he also claimed his parents as his dependents. This classification was soon changed to 1A, and in January 1943 he went in the Army. He spent his service time playing baseball with the Camp Claiborne, LA team and was discharged in October 1945. He spent the 1946 season with the Pirates, appearing in 17 games. He spent the next several years with different minor league teams, and in 1950 and 1951 was with his hometown Saginaw Bears in the Class A Central League. Though he won 19 games in 1951, he retired from baseball. As a big leaguer, he primarily wore number 24.
