Biographical Information[edit]
Andrew Garcia is the grandson of Dave Garcia and the brother of Greg Garcia. He reached AAA in 2011.
Garcia hit .344 for Cal-Riverside in 2008, winning All-Big West Conference honors. The Chicago White Sox took him in the 21st round of the 2008 amateur draft. Andrew made his pro debut that summer with the Bristol Sox, batting .299/.337/.459 with 8 home runs in 69 games and hit for the cycle once. He led Appalachian League second basemen in fielding percentage (.980), putouts (113) and assists (178). He lost All-Star honors to Elias Otero.
Andrew hit .269/.307/.371 for the 2009 Kannapolis Intimidators. He put up a .253/.318/.381 line with 29 doubles for the 2010 Winston-Salem Dash and fielded .981 at second base. He led Carolina League second sackers in putouts (254), assists (377) and double plays (97). Baseball America rated him as the best defensive second baseman in the Carolina League. In 2011, he alternated between second and short while playing for the Birmingham Barons (.264/.347/.416 in 35 G) and Charlotte Knights (.202/.258/.344). Overall, he struck out 161 times in 491 at-bats and had 33 doubles.
Garcia made Team USA's roster that fall. He was 4 for 20 (all singles) with 3 walks in the 2011 Baseball World Cup, playing second base when Joe Thurston was at DH. The US shared the Bronze Medal with Team Canada when the Bronze Medal game was rained out. Backing up Thurston in the 2011 Pan American Games, he was 0 for 2 with a walk, run and an error. In the Gold Medal game loss to Canada, he did not play.
2015 was his final campaign.
