Dirimo Chávez played five years in the minor leagues.

In 2001, Chávez hit .278 for San Joaquin in the Venezuelan Summer League. The next year, he batted .277 for Ciudad Alianza in the same circuit. In 2003, Chávez played for the DSL Red Sox East (.333) and GCL Red Sox (.342/.413/.378 in 36 games). Chávez batted .250/.341/.293 for the 2004 Augusta GreenJackets in a utility infielder role. Chávez split 2005 between the Greenville Bombers (.259/.333/.333 in 13 games), Wilmington Blue Rocks (.205/.290/.315 in 41) and Portland Sea Dogs (0 for 5). He was traded to the New York Mets for a player to be named later and finished his whirlwind year with the Brooklyn Cyclones (.187/.244/.267).

Chávez hit .323/.382/.613 for Venezuela in the 2006 COPABE qualifiers for the 2008 Olympics. During the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games, Chávez hit .310/~.333/.310 with 6 RBI in 7 games as Venezuela won Bronze. In the 2007 Pan American Games, he was 1 for 11 with a walk and two runs. In the 2007 Baseball World Cup, Chávez batted .250/.367/.417 with 7 runs in 7 games as Venezuela's shortstop. He signed with San Inazio Bilbao in Spain for 2008 and hit .378/.442/.511 with 20 runs in 22 games; he was third in the league in average.

Chávez hit .357/.381/.529 for Venezuela in the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup as they won a spot in the 2009 Baseball World Cup. For Bilbao in 2009, he batted .396/.467/.514 with 36 runs in 36 games. He was 5th in the league in average, led in hits (57, 5 over Richard Montiel), tied Daniel Martinez for 4th in runs, led with 14 doubles and was 3rd with 74 total bases.

In the 2009 Baseball World Cup, Dirimo hit .263/.323/.474 with 13 RBI in 13 games. He did make four errors, though. His big hit was the game-winning 11th-inning grand slam off Nate Field that gave Team USA its only loss of the tournament.

He signed with HCAW in the Netherlands for 2010. He was 0 for 1 with a walk as a backup DH on Opening Day.
