Daniel Martinez has been an outfielder with the Spanish national team. In the 2007 European Championship, the 20-year-old was Spain's second-youngest player (ahead of Daniel Sanchez). Usually hitting second and playing left field, he did very well, hitting .379/.457/.379 with 8 RBI in 8 games; only Daniel Figueroa (a US minor leaguer import) had a better average or as many RBI on the Bronze Medal winners.
Martinez batted .222/.391/.222 for Spain in the 2007 Baseball World Cup. In the 2008 Final Olympic Qualification Tournament, Daniel was 2 for 12 with a walk.
In the 2008 Division Honor season, Martinez hit .315/.379/.423 with 26 runs in 32 games for the Marlins Puerto Cruz. He hit .333/.455/.333 with 3 steals for Puerto Cruz in 5 games and 6 runs in the 2008 European Cup's Grosseto phase. In the 2009 European Cup in Nettuno, he went 1 for 9 with four walks.
In the 2009 Division Honor, Daniel was 5th in RBI (30) and tied Dirimo Chavez for 4th in runs (36). He was second with 8 home runs. His batting line was .342/.453/.624 to help his club to a title.
