Biographical Information[edit]
Dennis Martel coached college baseball for over 35 years.
Martel was an assistant coach at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1986-1987 and became head coach in 1988. In 2001, he guided them to a school-record 37 wins and an appearance in the 2001 Division III College World Series. Through 2008, he had gone 540-331 as head coach at Illinois Wesleyan, setting a school record for wins. Despite going 27-20 in 2010, the school made the 2010 Division III College World Series and went on to take their first national title. Martel retired after the 2024 season with a 915-617-3 record.
He also was head basketball coach at Bangor Community College for 4 years and director of basketball operations at Illinois Wesleyan.
