Biographical information[edit]

Daylan Holt is a former minor league baseball outfielder who played in the Oakland Athletics Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers farm systems from 2000 to 2004. His name is often misspelled as Daylon.

Drafted out of high school in the 27th round of the 1997 amateur draft by the Minnesota Twins, Holt chose not to sign and instead pursued a college career. In 1998, he hit .316 with seven home runs and 48 RBI in 65 games with Texas A&M. He was a 1st team College All-American and Big 12 Conference All-Star in 1999, a year in which he hit .341 with 34 home runs and 105 RBI in 70 games. After hitting .307 with 15 home runs and 49 RBI in 58 games in 2000, Holt was drafted by the Athletics in the third round. He decided to sign.

He also played for the Cotuit Kettleers in 2000.

He began his professional career with the Vancouver Canadians that season, hitting. 271 in 118 at-bats. With the Modesto A's in 2001, he hit .179 in 341 at-bats. In 2002, Holt split time between the Visalia Oaks and Midland RockHounds, hitting a combined 20 home runs and driving in 88 RBI in 134 games. He batted .286.

On December 3, 2002, the White Sox traded Keith Foulke, Mark Johnson, Joe Valentine, and cash to the Athletics for players to be named later and Billy Koch. The players to be named later ended up being Neal Cotts and Daylan Holt.

Holt spent only one season in the White Sox organization, hitting .249 with 11 home runs and 58 RBI in 353 at-bats (he split time between the Winston-Salem Warthogs and Birmingham Barons).

He wound up in the Dodgers organization in 2004, his final season. Splitting time between the Jacksonville Suns and Las Vegas 51s, Holt hit .232 with 14 home runs and 35 RBI in 114 games (276 at-bats).

Overall, Holt hit .245 with 49 home runs and 237 RBI in his minor league career.
