Biographical Information

Dave Grangaard peaked at AAA.

Grangaard was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 19th round of the 1965 amateur draft. He did not sign, then was the All-Tournament third baseman when Arizona State won the 1967 College World Series. The Minnesota Twins took him in the third round that June, then the Los Angeles Dodgers chose him in the 6th round in the January 1968 draft. In the June 1968 draft, the Houston Astros picked him up in the second round.

Dave hit only .187/.266/.311 that summer for the Greensboro Patriots, a rough debut even for the Year of the Pitcher. In 1969, he hit .242/.329/.330 for the Peninsula Astros with 16 steals in 18 tries. He led Carolina League third basemen in fielding percentage (.940), putouts (97) and assists (168). The next year, Grangaard batted .223/.353/.346 for the Columbus Astros while fielding only .905 at third.

In 1971, the 24-year-old put up a .280/.350/.386 line for Columbus. He was then traded with John Mayberry to the Kansas City Royals for Jim York and Lance Clemons. Assigned to the Omaha Royals for '72, he went 3 for 11 with a walk and five whiffs to end his career.
