Biographical Information

Danilo Sotelo has played for the Nicaraguan national team on and off for almost a decade and a half.

In the 1995 Intercontinental Cup, Sotelo hit .241/.371/.379 with 10 runs in 9 games as the Nicaraguan center fielder. He led the team in runs scored. Sotelo then signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played 10 games for the 1996 Savannah Sand Gnats (8 for 38, 5 BB, 2 2B, 2 3B) but spent most of the year with the Vero Beach Dodgers as their main second baseman. He hit .238/~.318/.381 for Vero Beach. In 1997, Danilo batted .196/~.318/.321 in 23 games for Vero Beach as another national team player (Chris Demetral - Greece) took over at second base. It was the end of Sotelo's US career. He was only 2 for 17 in the 1999 Pan American Games and was with Nicaragua for the 2001 Baseball World Cup (not getting into a game) and 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games. He helped Nicaragua win the Gold at the 2006 Central American Games and was named the All-Star RF. He played in the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games.

During the 2006 Americas qualifier for the 2008 Olympics, Sotelo batted .364/.389/.636 but Nicaragua failed to advance. Sotelo was far worse in the 2007 Pan American Games, going 0 for 14. In the 2008 Americas Baseball Cup, Sotelo hit .385/.393/.462 to help Nicaragua earn a spot in the 2009 Baseball World Cup. He made the All-Star outfield for the tourney alongside Ardley Jansen and Willie Vasquez, both of whom had more extensive US playing careers.
