Biographical Information

Danilo Sánchez peaked at AA.

Danilo hit .185/.326/.315 for the 2001 GCL Tigers in his first US season and led the Gulf Coast League with eleven passed balls. In 2002, he was 3 for 27 with a triple, homer and two walks for the GCL Tigers and batted .177/.295/.292 for the Lakeland Tigers, where he backed up Max St. Pierre at catcher.

The next season, the 22-year-old was 4 for 38 with five walks and a double for Lakeland and hit .264/.348/.463 in 38 games for the Oneonta Tigers. He and Paul Richmond split New York-Penn League All-Star catcher honors. During 2004, the Santo Domingo native had his first good full season, producing at a .294/.355/.443 rate for the West Michigan Whitecaps.

Sánchez's batting line in 2005 read .284/.361/.524 with 22 home runs, his only season with double-digit dingers for Lakeland. He shared Florida State League All-Star honors at catcher with Robinzon Díaz and he ranked fourth in the FSL in homers. He led FSL backstops with 711 putouts and 10 double plays. In 2006, Danilo fell back under the Mendoza Line at .181/.265/.300 with the Erie SeaWolves.

Finishing his US career, Danilo played for the 2007 Hickory Crawdads (.348/.467/.551 in 23 G), Palm Beach Cardinals (.270/.403/.476 in 19 G) and Springfield Cardinals (5 for 31, 7 BB, 2B, HR). He played in Italy in 2008-2009. He hit .260/.374/.488 for the 2008 Godo Knights and .278/.438/.444 in 2009. The second year, he was was 7th in the Italian Baseball League in OBP (between Giuseppe Mazzanti and Mario Chiarini) and tied for third in walks (32, even with Davide Dallospedale).

Sánchez was on the Dominican national team for the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. Down 5-3 against Nicaragua, he hit a 3-run homer off Diego Sandino for the winning shot. In the Gold Medal game, he was 0 for 4 in a 3-2 win over Mexico.

Returning to Godo in 2011, he hit .237/.367/.430. He tied Jairo Ramos and Mario Chiarini for third in homers, two shy of co-leaders Carlos Duran and Willie Vasquez. He also was 6th with 30 RBI and tied Josh Phelps for 8th with 26 walks. In the 2011 Baseball World Cup, he was 0 for 5 with 3 walks, backing up Alex Castillo. He threw out 3 of 6 attempted base-stealers. During the 2011 Pan American Games, he was 2 for 6 as Castillo's back-up. (Missing 2012-2016 information in Italy).

Sanchez was hitting coach of the DSL Pirates 2 in 2018 and catching coach of the DSL Angels in 2021 and 2023.
