Biographical Information[edit]
Damon Mitchell pitched for the South African national team that won the 2019 Africa Cup Baseball Championship, teaming with starter Kieran Cree on a win over Zimbabwe. He allowed one hit and no runs in three innings in the event. [1] In the 2019 Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier, he was one of South Africa's best hurlers (only Darryn Smith pitched more innings with a 0.00 ERA). He relieved Kevin Townend in the bottom of the 6th with a 7-0 deficit. He retired Ademar Rifaela, Kalian Sams and Sicnarf Loopstok in order. Yurendell de Caster singled to open the 7th but Mitchell got Sharlon Schoop to fly out and Dashenko Ricardo to ground into a double play. John Polonius flew out to open the 8th but Mitchell walked Dwayne Kemp and Roger Bernadina singled. He recovered to retire Rifaela and Sams to cap a strong outing. [2]
