Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Dahian Santos was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as an international amateur free agent on July 2, 2019. He would normally have made his professional debut in 2020, but the minor leagues were shut down that year because of the Coronavirus pandemic, so he had to wait another full year to do so. He finally did pitch in 2021, splitting the year between the FCL Blue Jays and the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Low-A Southeast. His combined record was 1-4, 5.58 in 12 games, including 9 starts, although he did flash some good stuff with 58 strikeouts against 16 walks in 40 1/3 innings.

In 2022, he was back with Dunedin, now in the Florida State League, and he pitched very well early on. On May 14th, he was part of a historic game: top prospect Nick Frasso, in his first start of the season, recorded 8 strikeouts in 3 innings, before turning the ball over to him. In his four innings of work, he gave up just 1 hit while waking 3, but also picked up another 10 strikeouts, turning over a 1-0 lead to Braden Scott, who closed out the win by recording all six outs in his two-inning stint on Ks. Altogether, the threesome combined for 24 strikeouts. While this wasn't a record - Ron Necciai had famously struck out 27 batters all by himself on May 13, 1952 - it was the most since at least 2005, and probably much longer as detailed records from earlier years were not readily available. The win improved his record to 2-2, 1.80 after 6 games, with a whopping 41 strikeouts in 20 innings.
