Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Nick Frasso was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 4th round of the 2020 amateur draft, out of Loyola Marymount University. That draft only went 5 rounds, a fallout from the Coronavirus pandemic, and there were no minor leagues for Nick to pitch in after he was signed by the Jays. As a result, he made his professional debut the following year, with the Dunedin Blue Jays of what was then called the Low-A Southeast, but after just 3 games and 5 innings, he had to undergo elbow surgery, wiping out the remainder of his season. He came back to Dunedin on May 14, 2022, for his first appearance in over a year, and it was a historic one. Flashing 100 mph heat, he struck out 8 batters over 3 innings, allowing ust one hit to the Tampa Tarpons, before being removed. What made the game historic was that the two pitchers who followed him also struck out just about every batter they faced: Dahian Santos picked up 10 Ks in 4 inning while receiving credit for the 1-0 win, and Braden Scott recorded all six outs in his two-inning stint via strikeouts. The total of 24 strikeouts was not a record - Ron Necciai had famously struck out 27 opponents all by himself back on May 13, 1952 - but it was the highest total recorded since at least 2005, and probably a lot longer since detailed records were not readily available for prior years.
