Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Braden Scott was not drafted after his three seasons at Indiana University Bloomington, and ended up signing to play in the Frontier League in 2021, with the Evansville Otters. He had been exclusively a reliever in college, but made 14 starts for Evansville, going 8-4, 2.72, with 104 strikeouts in 89 1/3 innings. these solid results caught the attention of the Toronto Blue Jays who signed him as a free agent on February 2, 2022.

He was first assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League, but after just one appearance, he was promoted to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats of the AA Eastern League. In 6 games there, he pitched well, going 1-1, 3.75 with 12 strikeouts in as many innings, but was sent back to Dunedin on May 12th, likely due to a numbers crunch. In his first game back in the FSL on May 14th, he was part of a historic performance as he combined with starter Nick Frasso and reliever Dahian Santos to strike out 24 batters in a 1-0 win over the Tampa Tarpons. Frasso pitched the first 3 innings, getting 8 batters to whiff, and Santos struck out another 10 in his four innings of work. He came out in the 8th to preserve the one-run lead. After striking out the first batter in faced, he gave up a pair of walks before striking out the next two, then struck out the side in order in the 9th. The 24 strikeouts were not a record - Ron Necciai had famously recorded 27 all by himself on May 13, 1952 - but were the most by any minor league team since at least 2005 - and probably much longer, as records from before that year were not readily available. he picked up his first save as a professional in the game.
