Biographical Information[edit]

Curt Raydon played one year in the majors.

Originally signed by the Milwaukee Braves, Raydon was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1953 along with five other players for Danny O'Connell. He reached the big leagues with Pittsburgh in 1958 and went 8-4 as a rookie. He pitched a four-hit shutout against the San Francisco Giants on July 25th, for his only career shutout and one of two complete games. However, he developed a cyst on the index finger of his pitching hand and then a sore arm after the season. He was limited to 15 games in AAA with the Columbus Jets in 1959 but pitched well, going 7-4 with a 2.92 ERA. He was expected to return to the Pirates in 1960 (Topps issued a baseball card for him), but he experienced arm tightness during Spring Training. He did not make the team and was sent back to the minors. He never again pitched in the major leagues.

Raydon had an interesting career as a hitter in his only season in the major leagues: although he managed to collect only one base hit, he nevertheless walked six times.

After his baseball career, Raydon became a policeman in his hometown of Bloomington, Illinois. He later moved to Texas, where he died at age 84.
