Cuba (Cuban Players League)

The Cuba team in the Cuban Players League of 1947-1948 finished second at 46-45, four games behind the Leones. Nap Reyes (.227 as an IF) managed the team before Santos Amaro took over. All-Stars were C Red Hayworth (.272, .315 SLG), 2B Bobby Avila (.304, .353 SLG, 17 SB), SS Stan Breard (.293, .367 SLG), OF Alejandro Crespo (.271, .376 SLG) and P Adrian Zabala (13-7). Avila was second in the league in steals. OF Roland Gladu (.330, .449 SLG) won the batting championship. Other notable names include Sal Maglie (11-9), Harry Feldman (9-10), Luis Tiant Sr. (0-0), 1B Danny Gardella (.250, .397 SLG, a league-leading 10 homers), Chico Garcia (.189), Ray Dandridge (.212) and Parnell Woods (.258).
