Craig Pycock is an Australian who has played extensively in Germany and for the British national team.
Pycock hit .255/.311/.255 for the 2005 Saarlouis Hornets in the Bundesliga and fielded .868 while playing all 3 outfield spots, both middle infield slots and pitcher. In 2006, he improved to .319/.404/.426 and fielded .985 while being mostly used as a corner infielder. He pitched 8 games, going 0-1 with 2 saves and a 2.65 ERA.
In 2007, Pycock batted .233/.333/.372 and fielded .889 as a utility man for Saarlouis. On the hill, he had a 8.10 ERA. As a utility man for Britain in the 2007 European Championship, he was 0 for 3 and handled one putout as a backup to Ian Young at first base. He allowed one run in 1/3 of an inning on the hill.
In 2008, Craig moved to the Mannheim Tornadoes. Pycock batted .237/.370/.342 as a utility bench player but was being used now primarily as a pitcher. In 14 games, he was 1-1 with 2 saves and a 0.82 ERA, striking out 24 in 22 innings. The numbers are deceiving as he allowed an inordinately high number of unearned runs - his RA was 4.91 and his WHIP was over 1. Pycock was used exclusively as a relief pitcher in the regular season. For this reason, it was a surprise when he was called on to start game 5 of the best-of-five Bundesliga finals against the Regensburg Legionäre. He was no match for a Regensburg team that included three players with US minor league experience in its lineup (Donald Lutz, Ludwig Glaser and Rodney Gessmann) and took a 10-0 loss against Philipp Hoffschild; Pycock only lasted 4 innings in the game.
