Biographical Information[edit]

Conor Brooks pitched for six years in the minors, peaking at AA.

Brooks was 3-3 with 3 saves and a 5.14 ERA as a college freshman, walking only 9 in 42 innings but giving up 65 hits. In 2000, the senior sparkled with a 8-2, 2.05 record, 2 saves, 91 strikeouts and a WHIP under 1. He led the Ivy League in both wins and strikeouts and was second to Chris Young in ERA. He beat out Young for Ivy League Pitcher of the Year honors. He finished among the school's all-time top 10 in wins and strikeouts. The Oakland Athletics chose him in the 26th round of the 2000 amateur draft.

Assigned to the Vancouver Canadians, Brooks had a 2-2, 3.47 record in his first pro season. In 2001, he was 5-5 with a 4.48 ERA for the Visalia Oaks. He was let go by Oakland and moved to the independent leagues. In 2002, Conor was 2-4 with 7 saves and a 3.63 ERA for the Brockton Rox. The next season, he was 1-4 with 21 saves and a 2.31 ERA for the Rox. He led the Northeast League in saves by 8 and was named the circuit's All-Star reliever, helping Brockton win it all. Brooks was then picked for Team USA in the 2003 Baseball World Cup. The 25-year-old was 1-2 despite a 0.93 ERA, taking both US losses. In the quarterfinals, he served up the losing homer to Chih-Sheng Lin in a 2-1 defeat.

The Plymouth native began 2004 with the Atlantic City Surf and went 1-2 with 16 saves and a 4.06 ERA. He was one save behind Atlantic League leader Bill Simas. The Boston Red Sox signed him and he finished the year with the Portland Sea Dogs (1 R in 2 IP) and Sarasota Red Sox (0-2, Sv, 2.77, 19 K in 13 IP). Used regularly out of the Portland bullpen in 2005, Brooks was 4-2 with 2 saves and a 4.85 ERA in 52 games to end his playing career.

Brooks later was pitching coach for the Harwich Mariners and for Boston College then scouted for the Texas Rangers and New York Mets. He also has been a pitching coach for the Great Britain national team in the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, the 2023 World Baseball Classic and the 2024 WBSC U-23 World Cup. Brooks is currently an international scout for the Kia Tigers in the KBO.
