Biographical Information[edit]
Clayton Hamilton signed to play in Japan in 2011.
Hamilton was picked by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 21st round of the 2003 amateur draft but did not sign. After his senior year of college, the San Diego Padres chose him in the 17th round of the 2004 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Josh Boyd and split the summer between the AZL Padres (1 R in 4 1/3 IP), Eugene Emeralds (1-1, 5.20, 31 K in 27 2/3 IP) and Mobile BayBears (1-0, 1.80). He pitched in 2005 for the Fort Wayne Wizards (9-6, 2.88, .226 opponent average) and Lake Elsinore Storm (2-2, 5.14). He was 4th in the Midwest League in ERA behind Kyle Aselton, Andy Sonnanstine and Sean Gallagher. That winter, he went to the Pittsburgh Pirates as a player to be named later in exchange for Bobby Hill.
Hamilton pitched in 2006 and 2007 for the Lynchburg Hillcats, going 4-5 with a 4.34 ERA the first year and 3-7, 6.36 the latter, which was cut short by injury to his right oblique. That off-season, the Texas Rangers took him in the AAA phase of the 2007 Rule 5 Draft. Clayton split 2008 between the Bakersfield Blaze (1-1, 6 Sv, 3.13) and Frisco RoughRiders (1-3, Sv, 5.14), moving to the bullpen after being used as a starter the prior several years. In 2009, he worked with Frisco (1-4, 3 Sv, 4.47) and the Oklahoma City RedHawks (2 Sv, 4.44), pitching 39 games and missing time with a back injury. The next year, Hamilton had a 1-1, 2.25 record for Frisco.
Hamilton signed with the Yokohama BayStars for 2011. He took Yokohama's first loss of the year; on April 13, he allowed two runs in three relief innings against the Chunichi Dragons.
