Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Clarence Lawrence played in the Chicago Cubs minor league system from 1946 to 1950.

He was 5-5 with a 4.21 ERA in his pro debut with the Janesville Bears and also hit .243. In '47, he was 10-7 but with a 5.62 ERA and 1.90 WHIP for the Marion Cubs. He was 5-7 with a 4.94 ERA for the 1948 Clinton Cubs, walking 72 in 93 innings. He improved to 12-8, 4.21 for the 1949 Sioux Falls Canaries, tying for 10th in the Northern League in wins though he was also 7th with 116 walks.

He won career-high of 13 in 1950, when he went 13-11 with a 3.87 ERA in 40 games for the Rock Hill Chiefs. He missed the Tri-State League top 10 in wins by one and showed better control than in the past (90 BB in 193 IP).

Overall, he was 45-38 with a 4.54 ERA in 119 games.

After baseball, he worked for the Waukesha Park and Recreation Department and was Nagawaukee Park manager. He was married for 63 years.

He also served in the US Army, but dates of service are unclear.
