Biographical Information[edit]

First Baseman Chih-Yuan Chu played in the CPBL for 5 years.

Chu represented Taiwan in the 1987 World Junior Championship. He was signed by the China Times Eagles when they were founded in 1993, and he hit .269/.335/.394 as their starting first baseman. He improved to .298/.368/.476 with 11 homers in 1994, and he tied Shi-Hsing Lo, Francisco Laureano, Min-Ching Lo and Masahiro Taijun for 10th in homers. Chu hit .260/.368/.467 with a career-high 22 doubles in 1995, ranking 8th in doubles (11 behind Cheng-Hsien Chen) and 8th in homers (9 behind George Hinshaw and Min-Hsiung Liao). He slumped to .207/.296/.296 in 1997, and he bounced back in 1998 as his batting line was .356/.423/.538. However, he was involved in a game-fixing scandal in the middle of the 1998 season, and he was banned for life.

Overall, Chu had hit .277/.358/.439 with 326 hits and 38 homers in 5 seasons in the CPBL.
