Cheng-Feng Chiang has pitched in the CPBL.
Chiang was drafted by the Uni-President Lions in the fourth round of the 2012 CPBL Draft.[1] He soon joined their bullpen in 2013, and he had a 4.88 ERA in 28 games. Chiang improved to a 2.46 ERA in 27 games in 2014, and he notched 4 holds. Chiang was selected into the 2015 CPBL All-Star Game, and he relieved Ching-Ming Wang in the 7th inning. He pitched a shutout inning and got the win thanks to Kun-Sheng Lin's clutch RBI single. However, he struggled after the game and he ended up having a 7.55 ERA in 36 appearances in 2015.
The Chiayi native bounced back a little in 2016, but he still recorded a 5.68 ERA in 31 games. He had a 5.03 ERA and 13 holds in 2017, then notched 4 holds with a 5.23 ERA in 23 games in 2018. Chiang pitched a shutout inning in 2018 Taiwan Series Game 3, then allowed 2 runs in an inning in Game 4. The Lamigo Monkeys beat the Lions in 5 games. Chiang's ERA rose to 8.44 in 2019, then he bounced back in 2020. He pitched 49 games with a 4.59 ERA, and also collected 7 holds. In the 2020 Taiwan Series, Chiang recorded a hold with a shutout inning in Game 1, then struck out 2 and walked 3 in an inning in Game 4; he still managed to remain scoreless. The Lions beat the CTBC Brothers in 7 games, and Chiang won his first Taiwan Series title.[2]
The sidearm pitcher had a fine 2021 season, as he collected 14 holds with a 3.48 ERA in 40 games. He ranked 7th in holds, 13 behind Chun-Wei Wu. In the 2021 Taiwan Series, Chiang had a shutout inning in Game 1, but he then allowed 2 runs in Game 4. The Brothers swept the Lions. Chiang struggled in 2022, and he only pitched 20 games with a 6.00 ERA. He had a 4.50 ERA with 10 holds in 37 games in 2023. He pitched 2/3 of a shutout inning in 2023 CPBL Playoff Series Game 3, and the Lions were eliminated by the Monkeys.
Chiang's repertoire features a fastball that peaks at 90 mph, a slider and changeup. He was famous for his elite changeup.
