Biographical Information[edit]

Chavez Young began his pro career in 2016.

The Toronto Blue Jays took Young in the 39th round of the 2016 amateur draft. He hit .276/.346/.438 in 21 games for the GCL Blue Jays that summer, with four assists in 19 games in the outfield. He was then the starting DH for the Great Britain national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers; the 19-year-old was not their youngest starter, as 18-year-old Jasrado Chisholm was the shortstop. The young Young did well, hitting .357/.400/.357 with two runs and three RBI in four games. His single off Jeremy Bleich scored Albert Cartwright to prevent a shutout loss in the finale against Israel. Young was second on Britain in hits (two behind Champ Stuart), tied Stuart and Todd Isaacs for the team lead in RBI and was second in average (.110 behind Stuart). For all the qualifiers, he tied for 6th in hits, even with several major league vets like Carlos Ruiz, Trent Oeltjen, Ryan Lavarnway and Eric Farris.
