Biographical Information[edit]

Chang-mo Koo has pitched in the Korea Baseball Organization and been on the South Korean national team.

Koo had a 9-7, 2.06 record in high school. [1] The NC Dinos took him in the first round of the 2015 KBO draft. [2] He was 4-1 with a 4.19 ERA in 39 games (9 starts) as a rookie in 2016, battling control issues (37 BB in 68 2/3 IP). Entering the rotation regularly for 2017, he had a 7-10, 5.32 record with 118 K in 115 IP. He fell to 5-11, 5.35 in 2018. He tied Chan-kyu Im and Hyeon-jong Yang for 5th in the league in losses.

In 2019, he improved to 10-7, 3.20 with 114 K in 107 IP. He was slated to play for South Korea in the 2019 Premier 12 but was injured and replaced by Seung-ho Lee. [3] He was superb in limited time in 2020 (9-0, 1.74 ERA, .81 WHIP, 102 K in 93 1/3 IP). He lost Game 2 of the 2020 Korean Series to Chris Flexen and the Doosan Bears but came back with 7 shutout innings in Game 5 to get the win; NC won its first title. [4] He missed all of 2021 due to a forearm fracture. [5]

Healthy again in 2022, he posted a 11-5, 2.10 record. Had he qualified, he would have edged Woo-jin An for the ERA title by .01. He then made South Korea's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. [6]
