Biographical Information[edit]

Chang-Shin Yang played in the CPBL and for the Taiwanese national team.

Yang was with Taiwan when they won Bronze in the 1984 World Junior Championship. [1] He was with Taiwan for the 1990 Goodwill Games. [2] In the 1990 Baseball World Cup, he hit .217/.250/.261 with two runs and three RBI in eight games, backing up Tai-Chuan Chiang in LF, Kuei-Chang Tseng in RF and Wen-Chung Chang at DH. [3] He was with Taiwan when they won the 1990 Asian Games; baseball was not yet a medal event. [4]

When the China Times Eagles formed, he was one of their initial players, for the 1993 CPBL. He hit .220/.297/.324 and fielded .969 in the outfield. In 1994, he batted .180/.247/.258, fielding .982. Yang fell to .136/.203/.136 in 1995 as a backup OF/1B. In 1996, he had his best year at .266/.366/.354, fielding .937 at second base. [5]

He was with the Chinatrust Whales in 1997 but did not play then was banned for life for his role in a game-fixing scandal. [6] He later coached youth baseball and women's baseball and was coach of Yunlin University of Science and Technology in 2013-2014. [7] When he died in 2015, he was the first former Eagle to pass away. [8]
