Category talk:Veterans
What do you guys think of this--MichaelEng 20:28, 20 Mar 2006 (EST) category? Should we keep it, get rid of it, rename it? I think if we keep it we should call it "military veterans" or something to avoid confusion. -Chisoxfan 01:54, 4 Mar 2006 (EST)
The Neft & Cohen Encyclopedia lists all the players who left from '41 - '46, its pretty long, add Korea ......
Is it possible to keep track properly?
The category could be moved to [[:Category:Military Service]] to include peacetime service and there could be subcategories for each war/conflict. The SABR veterans committee has a list of around 1800 baseball-related veterans in these categories; [[:Category:Civil War]], [[:Category:Spanish/American War]], [[:Category:Boxer Rebellion]], [[:Category:World War I]], [[:Category:World War II]], [[:Category:Korean War]], [[:Category:Peacetime]], [[:Category:VietNam]]. Is there a category bot that could add [[Category:?]] to pages? MichaelEng 16:45, 5 Mar 2006 (EST)
This category should be added to the main page. --MichaelEng 20:28, 20 Mar 2006 (EST)
Any admin can edit the main page. I update the What's New because I like to draw attention to new articles. Pti had designed the layout but lots of new categories have been added and we should probably rotate the articles linked to (why always have the same players listed, for instance?). I was going to look at it at some point in the future but if anyone else wants to take a shot, be my guest. - --Mischa 20:40, 20 Mar 2006 (EST)
Per discussion elsewhere, brief descriptions of each War have been added to the Header Pages, --Ron 10:22, 21 Mar 2006 (EST)
Should this be a sub-category of Player? A lot of these guys weren't MLB players. - --Mischa (talk) 12:53, 18 September 2013 (EDT)
The logical place for similar categories is Frivolities, but that sounds awful when we're talking about veterans. --Philippe (talk) 03:55, 19 September 2013 (EDT)
Agreed. - --Mischa (talk) 09:40, 23 September 2013 (EDT)
Maybe there should be a new Category at the top of the tree that encompasses all humans? Then Players, minor leaguers, foreign players, managers, veterans, etc. would all trickle down from there. --Jeff (talk) 17:22, 23 September 2013 (EDT)
Living beings... then we could create a dog category for Schottzie as well. :) -Chisoxfan (talk) 21:14, 23 September 2013 (EDT)
Actually, the Frivolities category could be renamed Miscellaneous, as many of the things it encompasses are neither frivolous nor trivial; the Veterans category could then easily fit under there. It's a bit of a renaming job, but not a huge one. --Philippe (talk) 06:06, 24 September 2013 (EDT)
Philippe's suggestion sounds reasonable to me. - --Mischa (talk) 09:51, 24 September 2013 (EDT)
I've now made all the changes. --Philippe (talk) 10:40, 27 September 2013 (EDT)
Thanks again - --Mischa (talk) 11:04, 30 September 2013 (EDT)
