The son of Buck Martinez, catcher Casey Martinez was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 47th round of the 2000 amateur draft. He played three seasons in their organization, briefly reaching the AAA level, and ended his career with one year in the Philadelphia Phillies chain. In a true organizational catcher role, he bounced around significantly, never spending a full season with any team.

In his first summer as a pro, he played for the Medicine Hat Blue Jays (7 for 25, 3 2B, HR, 6 BB) and the Queens Kings (3 for 22, BB). He split 2001 between the Charleston AlleyCats (.145/.174/.205 in 27 G), Dunedin Blue Jays (3 for 17, 2B) and Syracuse Chiefs (3 for 5). In 2002, he was with Charleston (.326/.396/.359 in 29 G), Dunedin (1 for 12, 2 BB) and the Tennessee Smokies (3 for 6, 2B, HR). In 2003, he played for the Lakewood Blue Claws (.253/.302/.368 in 32 G) and Clearwater Phillies (4 for 21).

Overall, he hit .238/.301/.316 in his four seasons, with 28 passed balls in 100 games at catcher and a 22% success rate at throwing out base thieves.
