Biographical Information[edit]

Carlos Torres was signed by the Chicago White Sox and scouts Paul Provas and Keith Staab as a 15th round pick in the 2004 amateur draft.

On June 18, 2009, pitching for the Charlotte Knights of the International League, Torres threw a rain-shortened, five-inning perfect game against the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Torres signed with the Yomiuri Giants for 2011. He debuted on April 20th and tossed six innings, allowing two runs in an even duel with fellow American Jason Standridge of the Hanshin Tigers. Torres allowed 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4. He was relieved by Tetsuya Utsumi. He only made 6 starts for Yomiuri, with poor results, going 1-2, 6.26 and pitching 27 1/3 innings.

After one season in Japan, he returned to the United States in 2012, joining the Colorado Rockies,, where he went 5-3, 5.26 in 31 games. He then played with the New York Mets for three seasons, from 2013 to 2015. Mainly a reliever, he pitched a career-high 73 games in 2014, when he went 8-6, 3.06 and recorded a couple of saves, the first of his career. He struck out 96 batters in 97 innings and made one start, that coming in an emergency role against the Chicago Cubs on August 18th; in spite of having pitched in relief the previous day, he gave the Mets five scoreless innings in a very valiant effort. He had experience in the role, having been used as a swingman in 2013, when 9 of his 33 appearances were in a starting role (he had gone 4-6, 3.44 that season). In 2015, he was strictly a reliever and was 5-6, 4.58 in 59 games. His strikeout rate fell a bit, to 48 in 57 2/3 innings and he was left off the Mets' postseason roster in spite of pitching more games than anyone on the staff except for closer Jeurys Familia.

Torres became a free agent after the 2015 season and on February 10, 2016, signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves, heading to spring training as a non-roster invitee.
