Biographical Information

Carlos Téller was a minor league pitcher.

Téller was signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates in November 2004; Rene Gayo was the scout. He made his pro debut with the 2005 VSL Pirates, going 3-2 with a 4.03 ERA. He struck out 65 in 60 1/3 innings, fifth in the Venezuelan Summer League in Ks, but he was also second with 44 walks. In 2006, he went 2-0 with a 2.86 ERA for the same club, allowing a .185 average (lowest in the VSL) and fanning 73 in 63 IP. His control remained poor, as he walked 41. He was 5th in the VSL in strikeouts and 4th in walks. He missed 2007 due to injury. With the '08 GCL Pirates, he went 4-0 with two saves and a 4.37 ERA to end his minor league career.

Téller pitched one game for Nicaragua in the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. Relieving Berman Espinosa in the 5th with a 4-0 deficit against host Panama, he did well, striking out Jose Macias and retiring Angel Chavez before Concepcion Rodriguez singled. He retired Jeffer Patino to end the inning. Pedro Rayo relieved him in the 6th. He had tough luck in the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, going 0-2 despite a 1.93 ERA; he lost a 2-0 duel to Venezuela's Jhonny Caraballo and Josmar Carreño (1 R in 6 1/3 IP) then allowed one run in three but took the decision in a 9-3 loss to Cuba in the Gold Medal Game.

The Manague native struggled in his lone outing in the 2015 Pan American Games (5 1/3 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 4 K) before Berman Espinoza took over against Colombia, but this time he did not take the loss, as Nicaragua rallied to win. In the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he was 0-1 with 4 hits, 6 walks and 6 runs (5 earned) in 3 1/3 IP. He was rocked in a start against Mexico in a loss then was hit hard again by them (as were most of the Nicaraguans) in relief in a 12-1 loss in the finale. He tied Blair Johnstone for the most walks in the WBC qualifiers that year.

He next appeared for Nicaragua when they won the 2017 Central American Games. He got a no-decision in his lone start, versus Guatemala (6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3 K); Osman Gutiérrez relieved.
