Biographical Information[edit]
Cam Devanney has played at AAA and for Team USA.
Devanney redshirted as a college freshman. [1] He hit .215/.324/.376 in 2017 and .287/.412/.433 in 2018. Improving further, he was at .335/.435/.592 with 10 homers and 52 RBI in 57 games in '19. The Milwaukee Brewers took him in the 15th round of the 2019 amateur draft. The scout was Taylor Frederick. [2]
He made his pro debut with the AZL Brewers Blue and did very well (.330/.424/.472 in 28 G), earning him a promotion to the Rocky Mountain Vibes (.246/.348/.456 in 33 G). After the 2020 minor league season was cancelled due to COVID-19, he skipped up to AA, batting only .175/.270/.261 for the Biloxi Shuckers. He still led the team in games played at 2B (48) and was two behind David Fry for the lead at 3B (34). He split '22 between Biloxi (.259/.340/.483, 20 HR in 115 G) and the Nashville Sounds (.306/.357/.571 in 13 G). He tied Jake Slaughter for 8th in the Southern League in dingers, trailed only Slaughter and Yonathan Perlaza in slugging, was 6th in OPS (between Brett Wisely and Matt McLain) and was 6th in doubles (28). [3] Among Brewers minor leaguers, he tied Andruw Monasterio for 6th in runs (69), was second with 32 doubles (two behind Joey Wiemer), was third in homers (two behind Jakson Reetz, one shy of Jon Singleton), ranked fifth in RBI and trailed only Sal Frelick and Wiemer in total bases.
Spending all of 2023 in AAA, he hit .271/.363/.471 with 27 doubles for Nashville, fielding .951 at short, which was his main position that year. He was third in the Brewers chain in doubles. He was then traded with Ryan Brady to the Kansas City Royals for Taylor Clarke. [4] He repeated as a regular at AAA, with a batting line of .254/.336/.445 for the Omaha Storm Chasers with 27 doubles, 19 homers and 77 RBI, fielding .968; he was blocked at the MLB level, though, by Bobby Witt Jr. He tied Eddy Alvarez and Rylan Bannon for 9th in the 2024 IL in RBI. Among KC farmhands, he tied Peyton Wilson for 6th in runs, was 4th in doubles, launched the third-most homers (two behind John Rave and Spencer Nivens) and led in RBI (six ahead of Josh Lester).
Making the US team for the 2024 Premier 12, he saw little action for the third-place team, with Carson Williams starting at short. Against Puerto Rico, he started at third base, hitting 9th. He drew a walk from Jonathan Bermúdez his first time up and finished the day 0-for-2 with two walks. Versus Taiwan, he took over at first when Luke Ritter moved to left but did not get to bat as Ryan Ward pinch-hit for him. [5]
