Biographical Information[edit]
Byung-kyu Lee played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 15 years.
Lee represented South Korea in the 2005 Asian Championship, and the LG Twins signed him in 2006. He spent his first four seasons in the minors, and he only played 56 games combined. Lee broke out in 2010, and he played 100 games with a .300/.389/.479 batting line. He only played 33 games due to knee injury in 2011, then he recorded a .318/.435/.422 batting line in 69 games in 2012. Lee then hit .291/.393/.372 in 73 games in 2013, and he crushed a career-high 16 homers with a .306/.423/.533 batting line in 2014. Lee was also selected into the 2014 KBO All-Star Game.
The Daegu native still crushed 12 homers in 2015, but his batting line fell to .244/.370/.448. He then hit .272/.389/.400 in 2016, but he was mainly placed in the minors in 2017. The Lotte Giants then selected him in the second draft, and he played 103 games with a .273/.432/.490 batting line in 2018. Lee struggled again in 2019 as he had a 3-for-19 record, and he stayed in the minor league for most of the season. He batted .274/.381/.463 in 53 games in 2020, and he announced his retirement after hitting .235/.395/.235 in 29 games in 2021. Lee was the batting coach of the Giants minor league team from 2021 to 2022, and he became the batting coach of their big club in 2023. Lee returned to the minors in 2024.
Overall, Lee hit .278/.394/.441 with 621 hits and 75 homers in 15 seasons in the KBO.
