Biographical Information

Byung-doo Jun has pitched four seasons in the Korea Baseball Organization through 2007 and represented South Korea in the 2006 World Baseball Classic. Control problems have hindered him throughout his career.

He started with the Doosan Bears in 2003 and pitched two scoreless innings. In 2004, he was 0-4 with a 5.51 ERA for the Bears, walking 59 in 81 2/3 IP. He was then traded to the KIA Tigers. In 2005, his record was 3-2 with five saves and a 3.00 ERA. He allowed only 37 hits in 57 innings, walking 39 though.

In the 2006 World Baseball Classic, Jun pitched in the last three games for the South Koreans after not appearing in the first four contests. On March 13, he relieved Min-han Son with a 3-1 lead in the 4th against Team USA. He walked Chipper Jones and Jason Varitek before fanning Mark Teixeira on a full count. He was replaced on the hill by Byung-hyun Kim. Two days later, he pitched in South Korea's second upset of Japan. With a scoreless game in the 6th, he relieved Chan-ho Park. He retired two batters and walked one before Byung-hyun Kim again took his spot.

On March 18, Jun took South Korea's only loss of the Classic. He relieved Jae Seo during a scoreless game in the sixth against Japan. He had a 1-2-3 sixth inning, retiring Norichika Aoki, Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Ichiro Suzuki. In the 7th, he allowed a leadoff double to Nobuhiko Matsunaka. Once again, Byung-hyun Kim relieved him, but Kim served up a 2-run homer to Kosuke Fukudome, which cost South Korea the game and eliminated them from the tournament.

Jun was 5-8 with a 4.35 ERA for KIA in 2006. He only pitched 7 games in 2007 (through mid-September), going 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA.
