Byeong-hyeon Jo has pitched in the KBO and for the South Korea national baseball team.
Jo was drafted by the SSG Landers in the 3rd round of the 2021 KBO draft, and he pitched 3 games with a 8.10 ERA in his rookie year. He then missed the next two years due to military service. Jo made it onto Korea's roster for the 2023 Asia Professional Baseball Championship, but he didn't pitch any games. He then played for Korea in the 2023 Asian Championship. Jo pitched 2 shutout innings against Hong Kong, and he completed 2/3 of a shutout inning against Thailand. He relieved Hyeon-su Jeong in the 4th inning against Japan, and he pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings with a strikeout against Jin Nakamura. Korea won Bronze in the event, and Jo was named the All-Star reliever. He tied for 5th in games pitched and had allowed two hits and two walks in his six shutout frames, fanning six.
He became an important part of SSG's bullpen in 2024, and he notched 12 holds and 12 saves with a 3.58 ERA in 76 appearances. He was 3rd in appearances, 1 behind Kyun-eun Noh and Byeong-heon Lee. On June 30, he struck out the first four batters he faced, and he tied the KBO record by fanning 10 consecutive batters.
Jo's repertoire included a fastball (peak 96.3 mph), curveball, cutter and forkball.
