Biographical Information

Left-hander Bud Teachout pitched three seasons in the majors with a record of 12-6.

He was an outstanding pitcher for two seasons (1925-1926), for Occidental College. He was signed by the 1930 Chicago Cubs after pitching three seasons in AA (then the highest minor league classification) ball from (1927-1929) with the Hollywood Stars and the Seattle Indians of the Pacific Coast League, and the Indianapolis Indians of the American Association.

Teachout would appear in two seasons (1930-1931) with the Wrigley Field team. He was 11-4 in the '30 year and 1-2 in '31. He was then traded to the St. Louis Cardinals along with Hack Wilson on December 11, 1931 for Burleigh Grimes.

Bud appeared in just one outing for the Cardinals in 1932 with no decision and this ended his major league time with a career 12-6 record and a 4.51 ERA, while pitching in 68 games.

He would spend the next four seasons (1932-1935) in the minors that would give him a total of seven seasons down under, with a record of 71 wins and 64 losses while appearing in 208 games.

Teachout would also manage part of the 1935 season with New Iberia Cardinals of the Evangeline League. He was the second of two managers in a seventh-place finish with a 48-80 record, 38 games back.

After baseball, Bud was a school teacher in the Unified School District of Glendale, CA for 30 years. He died from bronchopneumonia at age 81 and generalized heart disease on May 11, 1985 at Gardens Convalescent Hospital in Laguna Beach, CA.
