Biographical information[edit]

The Baltimore Orioles drafted Lorenzo Bundy in the 22nd round of the 1977 Amateur Draft from Essex High School, but he opted to attend college instead. After his college career was over, Bundy played in the Texas Rangers organization in 1981. From 1983-1988, Bundy split his playing time between the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system and the Diablos Rojos del Mexico in the Mexican League.

Even before completing his playing career, Bundy embarked on a long career as a coach and manager in the United States and Mexico. In both countries, he worked for many different teams. The following details his career with various major league organizations followed by his work in the winter Mexican Pacific League for the corresponding year(s). The years of managing in summer leagues is outlined separately in the chart below.

Bundy spent 1989 as a player/coach for the Jacksonville Expos in the Montreal Expos organization. He returned to Jacksonville in 1990 as a player/coach before leaving in late May to manage the GCL Expos.

Bundy joined the Florida Marlins organization in 1995 as their Minor League Outfield & Baserunning Instructor. He repeated this role in 1996 and 1998.

The Colorado Rockies hired Bundy in 1999 as a bullpen coach for the major league staff. This was his first appearance in the major leagues, but it only lasted one season. In 2000-2001 he was a Rockies Minor League Outfield & Baserunning Instructor.

Bundy's next move was to the Boston Red Sox organization as a hitting coach for the Pawtucket Red Sox in 2002. He only stayed one season.

In 2003, the Arizona Diamondbacks hired Bundy as a hitting coach for the El Paso Diablos. He started the next season as a hitting coach for the Tucson Sidewinders before being promoted on July 1, 2004 to the major league staff as their bench coach. Bundy returned to hitting coach duties in Tucson for the 2005-2006 seasons. He started 2007 as an interim manager for the Sidewinders, a gig that lasted until May 1st.

From 2007-2015 Bundy coached and managed in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, except for a one year detour in 2009 to serve as the first base coach for the Diamondbacks. He managed for the first several years for the Dodges before they promoted him to third base coach in 2014. Bundy returned to third base coaching in 2015 until the Dodgers appointed him their Major League Outfield Coordinator on August 17th.

Bundy's next stateside job was with the Miami Marlins where he served as a Major League Outfield & Baserunning Instructor in 2016-2017.

In 2018 Bundy managed in the summer Mexican League for the Pericos de Puebla. The League split the summer into two seasons with playoffs after each season. The format was unpopular with fans and was abandoned after one year. Bundy began 2019 managing the Generales de Durango, but was fired on May 20th. On June 20th he joined the Acereros del Norte and served as the team's bench coach for the remainder of the season.

Bundy was scheduled to manage the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. He returned to the New York Mets organization in 2021 to manage the Rumble Ponies.

Bundy managed in the Chicago White Sox minor league system in 2022-2023. In 2024 Bundy went back to a team he played for in the 1980s, the Diablos Rojos del México, and led them to a League championship. The Rojos signed Bundy to a two-year contract extension after the season.

Overall in the Mexican Pacific League, Bundy earned Manager-of-the-Year honors four times and won three league championships with three different teams.
