Biographical Information[edit]
Brian Marconi has pitched in the minor leagues (peaking at AAA) and for the Italian national team.
Marconi was 1-5 with a 5.62 ERA as a college freshman, then improved to 7-5, 5.06 as a sophomore and 5-1, 4.40 as a junior. His senior year, he was 3-8 with a 4.33 ERA. An undrafted free agent, he was signed by Philadelphia Phillies scout Kellan McKeon in 2019 [1], and he pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings for the GCL Phillies West while having a 4.56 ERA in 14 appearances for the Williamsport Crosscutters. On July 26th, he teamed up on a no-hitter against GCL Phillies East club, teaming up with starter Brandon Ramey and reliever Hsin-Chieh Lin while being followed by Tyler Burch. [2]
After the 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID-19, Marconi repeated his achievement in 2021, throwing a no-hitter against the Erie SeaWolves on July 3 with his teammates Francisco Morales, Zach Warren and Kyle Dohy. [3] He ended up having a solid 2.27 ERA in 34 relief outings with 15 saves for the Reading Fightin Phils, but he allowed 7 runs in 4 innings for the AAA Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He was second in the Double-A Northeast in saves, one behind Diógenes Almengo. He led Phillies minor leaguers in saves, 7 ahead of Blake Brown and Jesus Querales.
In 2022, Marconi notched 18 saves in Reading, but his ERA rose to 4.53 in 43 games. He also pitched 10 games for the IronPigs, and his ERA was 3.95. He led the Eastern League in saves, two ahead of Gavin Hollowell. He paced Phillies farmhands in appearances, one more than Nick Duron and had more saves than the next two players combined. He tied Greg Weissert for 6th in the minor leagues in saves. Marconi then made it onto Italy's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, but he didn't pitch any games. He left the Phillies system in the 2023 season, and he recorded a 4.34 ERA and a save in 38 appearances for the Lancaster Barnstormers.
