Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Greg Weissert has a rather difficult major league debut for the New York Yankees against the Oakland Athletics on August 25, 2022. Called up from AAA earlier that day to give the Yankees' overworked bullpen a hand, he was used immediately in the 7th inning of that evening's game at the Oakland Coliseum, taking over for starter Jameson Taillon with a comfortable 13-1 lead. He hit the first batter he faced, Jonah Bride, with a pitch, then committed a balk before plunking Skye Bolt as well. After getting Nick Allen to fly out, he walked Tony Kemp to load the bases and forced in a first run by walking Vimael Machin as well. Manager Aaron Boone had seen enough and brought in Lucas Luetge, but after a second out he hit a third batter that inning, Seth Brown to force in another run and Shea Langeliers hit an infield single to give Greg an ERA of 81.00 for his first big league outing. In spite of this, the Yankees won the game handily, 13-4.

On December 5, 2023, he was involved in a rare trade between the Yankees and their chief rivals, the Boston Red Sox, heading to Beantown alongside two minor league pitchers, Richard Fitts and Nicholas Judice, in return for OF Alex Verdugo.
