Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Vimael Machín was among the first group of players to graduate from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy and its attendant high school, one year before Carlos Correa. He was drafted in the 29th round of the 2011 amateur draft by the San Diego Padres, but decided to attend college instead, going to Virginia Commonwealth University. Four years later, he was 10th round pick by the Chicago Cubs in the 2015 amateur draft.

On December 12, 2019, he was claimed from the Cubs by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2019 Rule V Draft, then immediately sold to the Oakland Athletics. He made their opening day roster in 2020, making his debut as the team's starting DH against the Los Angeles Angels on July 26th. He was supposed to face Shohei Ohtani in his return to the mound that day, but by the time he first came to bat in the bottom of the 1st, Ohtani had already been chased from the game, and he grounded into a double play against Matt Andriese. He went 0-for-3 with 2 GiDPs in his maiden game.
