Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Brian Barton was drafted in the 38th round of the 2000 amateur draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers but opted for college, attending The U, the University of Miami. As a junior in 2004, he hit .371 and was named to the College World Series All-Tournament team. He went undrafted out of college, due largely to his academic background. He was an aerospace engineering major who had interned at Boeing. He was signed by scout Jorge Diaz for the Cleveland Indians as a free agent for $100,000 and another $100,000 in college funds. After three years in the Indians organization, he was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2007 Rule V draft.

Brian made his big league debut as a pinch hitter on April 1, 2008, and collected his first major league hit, a pinch single off Taylor Buchholz of the Colorado Rockies. Spending the whole season on the big league roster, he appeared in 82 games, slashing .268/.354/.392 with 2 home runs and 23 runs scored. In 2009, he began the life of baseball's classic journeyman. Without appearing in a big league game for the Cards, he was dealt April 20 for well-traveled reliever Blaine Boyer to the Atlanta Braves. He made one lone appearance as a Bravo, pinch running for Jeff Francoeur and playing 2 innings in right field of an extra inning affair with the Chicago Cubs on June 3. He became a free agent after spending the remainder of the season in Triple A, suiting up with the Los Angeles Dodgers in spring training 2010. He was released on the eve of the season, and spent 2010 and 2011 in the Atlantic League, seeing time with the Newark Bears, Bridgeport Bluefish and Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. He caught on with Louisville in the Cincinnati Reds organization at the tail end of '11 in a 19 game stint and spent part of 2012 south of the border in the Mexican League. He returned to Southern Maryland partway through 2012, finishing his playing days with the Sugar Land Skeeters in 2014.
