Biographical Information[edit]

Originally an infielder, Brett Wayne was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 22nd round of the 2002 amateur draft and made his pro debut with the GCL Dodgers. He moved on to the South Georgia Waves in 2003, primarily playing infield but appearing in five games as a pitcher. He became a full-time pitcher in 2004, splitting the year between the Columbus Catfish and the Vero Beach Dodgers.

Following the 2004 season, Wayne was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the AAA phase of the 2004 Rule V Draft. He spent the next two seasons with the Visalia Oaks, saving 8 games over that span. He spent the entire 2007 campaign in the Montgomery Biscuits bullpen. Despite posting an 11.91 ERA in May, his earned run average was below 3.00 in every other month of the season. Overall, he was 2-0 with a 4.79 ERA in 29 outings for the club.
