Biographical information

Brett Bordes is a former minor league baseball relief pitcher who played in the Baltimore Orioles farm system.

College career

Bordes attended Arizona State University from 2003 to 2006, however he was also recruited by Tulane University, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the University of Arizona.

In 2003, he went 1-1 with a 3.21 ERA in 27 relief appearances. In 28 innings of work, he walked 28 batters and struck out 27.

The following year, he appeared in 13 games, starting eight of them. Although he struck out 38 batters in 33 2/3 innings of work, he also walked 31 batters and posted an 8.55 ERA. He still managed a winning record, going 3-1.

Used primarily as a reliever in 2005, Bordes made 38 appearances, going 5-7 with a 4.24 ERA in 74 1/3 innings of work. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 24th round in 2005. He chose not to sign.

He went 7-1 with a 3.15 ERA in 31 relief appearances in 2006. The Orioles drafted him in the ninth round, and this time he chose to sign. The signing scout was John Gillette.

Professional career

Bordes began his professional career in 2006 with the Aberdeen Ironbirds. In 28 relief appearances with them, he went 3-1 with a 2.02 ERA. In 35 2/3 innings of work, he walked 18 batters and struck out 28. He did not allow a single home run.

In 2007, Bordes spent his entire season with the Delmarva Shorebirds. He made 32 relief appearances with them, going 3-2 with a 3.09 ERA. In 43 2/3 innings of work, he walked 37 batters and struck out only 34. Again, he did not allow a single home run.

He split 2008 between the Delmarva Shorebirds and Frederick Keys, going a combined 2-2 with a 4.71 ERA in 41 games (one start). He went 6-6 with a 5.51 ERA for the Keys and Shorebirds in 2009. In 2010, he went 4-3 with a 3.40 ERA in 43 relief appearances with the Keys.

Overall, he went 18-14 with a 3.86 ERA in 189 appearances.

Family information

Bordes is the son of former minor league baseball player Charles Bordes, brother of former minor leaguer Greg Bordes, cousin of minor leaguer Jim Patterson, grandson of former Pacific Coast League president Bill Cutler and nephew of Jack Heidemann. He is also related to Mike Heidemann and Larry Patterson.
