Biographical Information

Pitcher Brent Suter began his professional career in 2012. He was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 31st round of the 2012 amateur draft. The scout was Steffan Wilson.

He pitched mostly in relief his first season, but transitioned to the rotation in 2013. Between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Brevard County Manatees that year, he was 7-10 with a 3.43 ERA in 24 games. In 2014, for the Huntsville Stars, Suter was 10-10 with a 3.96 mark in 28 games. He spent most of 2015 with the Biloxi Shuckers (83 IP, 1.95 ERA), but also made six starts for the Triple A Colorado Springs Sky Sox. He was 3-1 with a 3.31 mark there and 8-4 with a 2.36 ERA overall. Over the winter, he pitched for the Tigres de Aragua in Venezuela. He began 2016 with Colorado Springs.

Suter was a MiLB.com Organization All-Star in 2013 and 2015. When Suter made his major league debut for the Brewers on August 19, 2016, he was the first lefthander to start a game for the team in 474 games. The last one had been Tom Gorzelanny on August 28, 2013. Brent allowed 4 runs in 4 1/3 innings and was charged with a 7-6 loss to the Seattle Mariners. He went 2-2, 3.32 in 14 games, including 2 starts. In 2017, he was used as a swingman, going 3-2, 3.42 in 22 games, 14 of them starts. He pitched 81 2/3 innings and struck out 64 opponents.

On May 8, 2018, he did something that had become extremely rare for a relief pitcher: not only did he go to bat in a game situation, but he hit his first career home run. He had come into the game in the 1st inning in relief of Wade Miley, who had to leave because of an injury, in an interleague game against the Cleveland Indians. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, and in the 3rd, facing Cleveland ace Corey Kluber, he hit a no-doubt 433-homer to center field which proved key in a 3-2 Brewers win. He said that he had not hit a home run since his high school days.
