Biographical Information[edit]
Brandon Marklund has pitched in the minors and for the Canadian national team.
Marklund led the Appalachian Athletic Conference with eight saves as a senior, setting school records in ERA (2.38) and opponent average (.199), making All-Conference. [1] He was not drafted and went to play for the Auckland Tuatara in the 2018-2019 Australian Baseball League, going 1-0 with a 2.29 ERA. He was timed at 96 mph with his fastball and also had a good slider. [2] Kansas City Royals Australia scout Phil Dale signed him as a free agent. [3]
He was dazzling with the Lexington Legends in his minor league debut - 4-0, 6 Sv, 0.46 ERA, 44 K in 39 1/3 IP, .162 opponent average. He made one appearance for Canada in the 2019 Premier 12. Relieving Brock Dykxhoorn with a 1-1 tie in the 7th against Australia, he retired Aaron Whitefield, gave up a single to Mitch Nilsson, fanned Darryl George and got David Sutherland on a grounder. In the 8th, he walked Luke Hughes. Tim Kennelly hit into a force and Andrew Campbell grounded him over. Marklund walked Robbie Glendinning then was relieved by veteran Scott Mathieson. When Mathieson gave up a two-run triple, both runs were changed to Marklund, giving him a team-high 10.80 ERA and the loss. [4]
