Biographical Information[edit]

Borna Strelec has been a pitcher in Croatia and for the Croatian national team.

He was 2 for 12 for Croatia's junior team in 2017. [1] With Vindija Varazdin in the 2018 Federations Cup, he lost to the host Brasschaat Braves (4 1/3 IP, 8 H, 8 BB, 11 R, 10 ER) and batted .214/.267/.214. [2] In the 2019 CEB Cup, he lost to Minsk (4 IP, 9 H, 3 BB, 3 K, 9 R, 5 ER) and was 2 for 13 with a walk, run and a RBI. [3] He was with Croatia for the 2019 U23 European Championship, he pitched two games, losing to Ukraine. He had a 14.54 ERA and 10 hits in 4 1/3 IP, walking 3 and fanning 2. He was 1 for 6 with a run. [4]

In the 2019 European Championship, he debuted in an upset bid, with Croatia tied with Italy 1-1 in the 10th. Under the Schiller Rule, two runners started the inning on base when he relieved Pavao Karin. He allowed a single to former major leaguer John Andreoli, the first batter he faced, to get charged with the loss. He started against Austria two days later and lost again, allowing 6 hits, 5 walks and 4 runs in 5 while striking out eight before Fran Stančić Vidrač relieved. His last game, he closed out a 10-0, 7-inning mercy rule loss (also to Austria), allowing two runs in two innings. His 7.71 ERA was better than the team mark of 8.84. Only Jose Diaz fanned more for Croatia. He tied Jesper Svedhem, Artuur Driessens and teammate Marin Tadić for the tourney lead in losses. [5]
