Biographical Information

Catcher Bobbie Goodman was drafted fifth overall in the 1st round of the 1972 amateur draft by the Montreal Expos after Dave Roberts, Rick Manning, Larry Christenson and Roy Howell. He played in the minor leagues from 1972 until 1977, never reaching the majors. He spent half of the 1973 season and most of the 1974 season on the disabled list, yet was listed on the Expos' 1975 spring roster.

Goodman began his professional career with the Jamestown Falcons in 1972, hitting .241 with 4 home runs in 65 games. The following year, 1973, with the Single-A West Palm Beach Expos, he hit .270 with 10 home runs in 68 games. He faltered upon reaching Double-A, hitting only .227 in 29 games for the Quebec Carnavals in 1974 and .193 in 79 games for them in 1975. He was back with West Palm Beach in 1976 (though he also played a game for the Triple-A Denver Bears), hitting .234 in 55 games. Though he rebounded by hitting .259 with 12 home runs and 40 RBI for the Quebec Metros in 1977, that would end up being his final season.

Overall, Goodman hit .240 with 36 home runs in 398 games. While he was always considered a good prospect, the Expos also drafted two other good catchers around the same time as him, Barry Foote, who went number 3 overall in 1970, and future Hall of Famer Gary Carter, selected itwo rounds behind Goodman in 1972. They also had another decent home-grown catcher trying to find playing time in Terry Humphrey. The first two reached the majors in 1973 and 1974 respectively, greatly reducing the potential opportunities for Bobbie, who did not help his cause with his repeated injuries just when it looked like he was unlocking his great potential.
