Biographical Information[edit]

Blas Cedeno pitched in the minors leagues and the CPBL.

Cedeno began his professional career with the Detroit Tigers, and he was 1-4 with a 3.80 ERA for the Bristol Tigers in 1991. He was 8-2 with a 2.01 ERA in Bristol in 1992, and he also had a 3.00 ERA in 2 games for the Fayetteville Generals. Cedeno went 6-6 with a 3.15 ERA for the Generals in 1993, then he was turned into a reliever. He recorded a 1.29 ERA in 5 games for the Lakeland Tigers in 1994, then he played 34 games for the Trenton Thunder with a 2.58 ERA and 3 saves.

In 1995, Cedeno stayed with the AA Jacksonville Suns for the entire season, and he had a 3.46 ERA in 48 appearances. He then slumped to a 5.40 ERA in 26 games with the Suns in 1996, and his ERA rose to 5.51 in 10 games even in Lakeland. Cedeno was 3-3 with a 2.90 ERA in 1997 for the Rockford Cubbies, then he became a free agent. He was 1-6 with a 4.47 ERA for the independent New Jersey Jackals in 1998, then the Philadelphia Phillies signed him. Cedeno had a 4.21 ERA in 34 games for the Clearwater Phillies in 1999, and he also recorded a 4.26 ERA in 19 relief outings for the Reading Phillies. He stayed in Reading in 2000, and he was 3-1 with a 4.77 ERA in that season.

Cedeno was involved in an infamous fight in 2001. When pitching for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons against the Pawtucket Red Sox, he plunked batter Israel Alcántara. Alcántara then karate kicked catcher Jeremy Salazar, and he proceeded to rush the mound. infielder Kevin Orie tackled Alcantara down to prevent a fight, and he was suspended for 7 games. Cedeno ended up having a 4.45 ERA in 35 games for the Red Barons, and he also pitched 7 games with a 2.25 ERA. He pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings in 2002 in Clearwater, but he allowed 4 runs in 3 1/3 innings in AAA class then he went to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

After changing team, Cedeno pitched 9 games with a 2.08 ERA for the Lynchburg Hillcats, but he struggled in AAA class again as his ERA was 6.35 in 6 games for the Nashville Sounds. He pitched 11 2/3 shutout innings for the GCL Pirates in 2003, but he went 0-2 with a 5.79 ERA in Lynchburg. He recorded a 3.89 ERA in 22 games for the Camden Riversharks in 2004, and he signed with the Brother Elephants of Taiwan after pitching in Venezuela for a year. He notched 9 saves with a 4.70 ERA in 18 games, and he was 4th in saves (between Ramon Morel and Yu-Chieh Shen). Cedeno announced his retirement after the 2006 season.
