Biographical Information[edit]

Bienvenido Arias was an outfielder for the Dominican national team that won the Bronze in the 1943 Amateur World Series (hitting .304/~.304/.391 to tie teammate Canín Zabala for 5th in the event in average) and the Silver Medal in the 1946 Central American and Caribbean Games. The Dominicans won their only Amateur World Series in 1948 and he played a big part, hitting .440/.500/.720 with 7 runs. He tied for the most triples (2) and was 4th in average (between Gallego Muñoz and Ernesto Chamorro).

He joined the Estrellas Orientales when the Dominican League was founded in 1951 and hit .270/.363/.382 that first season. He slumped to .180/.222/.195 in 1952-1953 and .228/.268/.229 in 1953-1954. Primarily a first baseman in the Liga, he rebounded to .260/.317/.313 in 1954-1955 and .262/.302/.321 in 1955-1956. In 1956-1957, he hit only .129/.282/.161. Overall, he hit .239/.303/.298 with 61 runs and 73 RBI in 238 Dominican League games.
