Biographical Information[edit]

Canín Zabala hit .304/~.304/.435 for the Dominican national team that finished third in the 1943 Amateur World Series. He tied Bienvenido Arias for 5th in the event in average and tied him for best on the Dominican squad. [1] He played in Colombia in 1948. [2] He was on the Estrellas Orientales in the first Dominican League season, 1951. He batted .265/.342/.412 while going 3-3 with a 4.20 ERA on the hill. He was one win shy of leading his team. [3] Zabala slumped on both ends in 1952 (.140/.155/.158; 0-1, 5.95). In 1953, he moved to the Aguilas Cibaeñas and was 1-0 with a 5.73 ERA while going 1 for 9 with a double. During 1954, he was 0-3 despite a 2.41 ERA and went 1 for 14 on offense. He had his team's lowest ERA, .01 better than Julián Ladera. Overall, he had batted .167/.202/.228 in four seasons in the Dominican League while going 4-7 with a 4.09 ERA.
