Biographical Information[edit]
Ben Van Dyke pitched two years in the majors. During his first year he was a teammate of Harry Coveleski, while in the second year, 1912, he pitched on the World Series champion Boston Red Sox who featured Smoky Joe Wood.
He was sometimes referred to as Benny Van Dyke.

Van Dyke made his first official appearance as a member of the American Association's St. Paul Saints on April 12, 1913 when he relieved Dixie Walker in the season opener played at St. Paul's Lexington Park. It was, very likely, the highest-scoring season opener in league history, as the Indianapolis Indians scored 21 runs to St. Paul's 13.
