The Marylands were one of 2 baseball clubs to use the name during the mid-19th century. The first team was an amateur team formed in 1867 and was a member of the National Association of Base Ball Players. Officially the team was known as the Maryland Base Ball Club of Baltimore and was often referred to as the Marylanders. In 1869 it was one of 12 teams to turn professional, and though the team posted a sub-.500 record against the other professional teams, they held a 7-1 record against other amateur teams. Following the 1870 season, the team folded rather than join the National Association. The second team to use the Marylands name was an even shorter lived team. Managed by Bill Smith, the team only played 6 games between the months of April and July against 2 teams: 4 games vs. the Baltimore Canaries and 2 vs. the Washington Blue Legs all 6 games were blow-outs. Due to financial difficulty, as well as poor play, the Marylands folded after their last game on July 11th.

Note: 6 players began their careers with the Marylands, including Bobby Mathews.
