Biographical Information

Baek-ho Kang debuted in the KBO with a Rookie of the Year award.

Kang played for South Korea in the 2016 Asian U-18 Championship. He hit .375/.444/.656 with 6 runs and 8 RBI in the 2017 U-18 Baseball World Cup and pitched two shutout innings (1 H, 1 BB, 4 K). He had 3 hits, 3 runs and 3 RBI in a win over Cuba and got two doubles for half of South Korea's hits in a 8-0 loss to the US in the Gold Medal Game. For the Cup, he tied for 6th in hits (12), tied for first in doubles (with Saul Favela, Sherten Apostel and Hisanori Yasuda), tied Jeyner Sanchez for 1st in total bases (21), was 3rd in slugging and 5th in OPS. He was named the All-Star DH. With a fastball around 95 mph and his offensive talent, there was speculation he would be the KBO's first two-way player since Sung-han Kim in 1982.

Drafted by the kt Wiz, he had a strong pro debut, used on offense instead of as a pitcher or two-way player. He hit .290/.356/.524 with 32 doubles, 29 homers and 108 runs. He was 6th in the 2018 KBO in runs, between Ah-seop Son and Roger Bernadina and missed the top 10 in homers by four. He was named KBO Rookie of the Year, the first kt player to be so honored.
